Mentorship
with Sarah Selecky

Three months of intuitive editorial guidance that helps you see what your manuscript wants to become.

For writers who want to write or revise their novel and feel good while doing it.

This mentorship is for you if:

  • You’re revising a novel (or writing a first draft) and you want to feel good about the process, not dread it

  • You feel stopped—not just stuck—when you try to work on your manuscript, as if your body is telling you not to proceed without support

  • You’re trying to turn the non-linear shimmer of your story idea into a book, and you need help organizing what arrives in downloads while staying open to what wants to emerge

  • You want someone to show you what sparkles in your work, what’s already working, where the energy lives—not what’s wrong

  • You have a big, ambitious idea that feels bigger than you are—and you’re wondering if you’re really the one to write it (you are, and I can help you feel less intimidated about writing it)

If this describes where you are, book a call to see if mentorship is right for you.

You might be feeling:

You move toward your work in progress, prepared to work on it, but every time you go near it, you feel overwhelmed and turn away from it again.

The revision process doesn’t feel good. Writing feels heavy, confusing, even physically draining. You might have even gotten sick, or found yourself in a freeze state, unable to move forward. Your body is telling you it doesn’t want you to go there alone.

You’re receiving downloads all at once. Your ideas are non-linear, and you don’t know how to organize them into a manuscript that makes sense.

You want to stay open to what emerges, but you know you also need a container. You’re trying to turn creative emergence into logical, sequential order, and you need a guide for this neurologically complex work.

Your idea feels ambitious, delicious, and bigger than you are. Sometimes you wonder: am I really the one to write this? The doubt creeps in whenever you try to actually put words on the page.

This is perfectly normal. Your idea has chosen you. It feels bigger than you because you haven’t written it yet. But you don’t have to write it all on your own!

You have help from the idea itself, and you have me to help you connect to its energy, break the work into manageable pieces, and feel less frightened about bringing your vision to the page.

What you deeply want:

  • To write (or revise) with momentum and confidence, not anxiety and self-doubt

  • To feel the same creative joy you felt when you first started this book

  • To make decisions about your manuscript with clarity and trust your own instincts

  • To turn the shimmer of your vision into an organized, well-written manuscript

  • To have a skilled and experienced author witness what sparkles in your work so you can see it yourself

  • To feel great about your writing while you’re doing it — not exhausted or perfectionistic, but energized and aligned

  • To feel consistently connected to the energy of your story, and to trust that you’re the one to write it

  • To finish this book and bring your full vision to the page

How Mentorship Works:

I’ll be your writing partner for 14 weeks (3 months), supporting you in your process in the ways you need. We’ll work closely together to shape your novel or book-length manuscript. My mentoring includes careful reading of your work as you write it, weekly calls with feedback, problem-solving, and editorial advice. If you ever get stuck in the middle of a scene and you need to touch in, I’ll be there in your pocket, on Voxer.

Your mentorship includes:

  • Up to 20 new pages per week for feedback (for a total of up to 280 pages total)

  • Weekly calls with feedback, problem-solving, and editorial guidance (30-90 minutes, as required—these calls are to serve your creative process, so together we can decide what’s best for you)

  • Voxer support between calls so you can touch in whenever you need support, have a breakthrough, or want guidance on a creative decision

This mentorship is designed for those working on book-length projects, but it can be modified to match your particular needs. You can finish your book in the time we spend together, or reach whatever milestone is right for you.

Through our work together, you’ll:

  • Make creative decisions with confidence and curiosity, not fear, because you’ll be connected to the energy of your story and know you’re not working alone (the energy of your story becomes your cooperative creative ally)

  • Build on your strengths as you go. As you utilize my feedback in ways that make sense to you, you’ll write better and better scenes as you move forward through your project

  • Get personalized feedback on your pages, learning craft techniques through your own manuscript—so that you develop mastery while you’re writing, not just get knowledge about writing

  • Create a process and structure that works for you. You’ll know where your scenes should go while still being flexible enough to change as needed as new insights about your story emerge

  • Learn how to assess what feels true and what doesn’t. No more forcing yourself to write scenes you’ll eventually have to cut later

  • Transform your relationship with your writing from adversarial to loving, so that writing this book becomes an adventure you and your story are on together

“Sarah is a master coach.”

“Working with Sarah one-on-one over many months was transformative. Writing has become a love story, as well as an exquisite exploration of my connection to life. With sensitivity and care, Sarah showed me that I can trust the process at a deeper level than my conscious mind. She shared exercises and daily practices that guided me in letting go into the liminal space of generative writing without losing my way. That was one of many revelations. Sarah creates a space of sacredness and levity in every session. You’ll feel challenged, encouraged, and celebrated at each turn. And you’ll come away with a renewed sense of courage, continuity and confidence. Sarah is a master coach. Her work is a unique and a rare gift for writers of all backgrounds.”

Process & Timeline:

Every writer is different, and every project has its own process. Rather than follow a rigid structure, our work together will unfold organically in response to what you and your manuscript need.

How it typically unfolds:

In the beginning, we spend time understanding your manuscript—where it is now, what it wants to become, and what you need to get there. I read your pages each week to see what’s already working, where the energy lives, and what questions the work is raising.

As we continue, you’ll keep writing with my support, submitting pages regularly and receiving feedback that helps you see what you’re discovering. We break the work into manageable pieces so you always know your next step. Our calls adapt to what you need. Sometimes we’ll get into a deep editorial discussion, sometimes we’ll problem-solve using intuitive tools like trance, tarot or automatic writing when you’re stuck, sometimes I’ll provide accountability and the encouragement you need to keep momentum.

Toward the end, we review what you’ve accomplished and create clarity about your next steps with the manuscript.

But this is flexible. You and your project might need a different approach. We’ll find out what cadence works for you and your schedule, so you can work at your own pace. In our first call, we will discuss what this will look like for you.

“I am forever changed as a writer.”

“Mentorship with Sarah made my writing more vivid, more tangible, more visceral, and embodied. And I feel like I am forever changed as a writer.

Sarah uses intuition as a tool to help you find your writing. Every time I interacted with Sarah, I was surprised by how supportive and delightful she is. And in that container of support, I really rediscovered my ability to listen to what my story had to tell me.

I can’t recommend working with Sarah enough. She’s an incredible human being. Those of us who get to work with her see that immediately. She is a unicorn.”

“The mentorship showed me that I can write.”

“What I appreciated most about the mentorship was your kindness and care when reviewing my work. It felt like my writing was being tended to, that you were tending to some deeper writerly wounds beyond just the mechanics or the craft of writing. Initially, I hesitated to apply, because I thought my writing had to be at a certain caliber, since you’re a published author. But I trusted you weren’t offering some quick fix scheme.

The mentorship showed me that I can write. Throughout, you met me where I was, and let things unfold organically. There were challenges, and I could meet them. And every challenge felt like a small win, which made me realize the importance of celebrating those moments.

Your approach, blending coaching and meditation, opened up so many possibilities. Writers of any genre could benefit from working with you, because you meet them where they are. You know how to teach craft, but being a writer is so much more than that. I loved your book suggestions, your assignments, and the natural evolution of our work together.

You’re like a ‘writer whisperer.’ It was an honor having you as my mentor and teacher. Our mentorship was truly wonderful. Thank you for such a special time.”

Frequently Asked Questions:

How is Mentorship different from your State of Mind Coaching?

Mentorship focuses on your manuscript—I read your pages and provide editorial guidance, craft feedback, and thought partnership as you write or revise. State of Mind Coaching addresses the mindset blocks and resistance patterns that keep you from writing.

Many writers benefit from both: coaching first to clear resistance and reconnect with creative flow, then mentorship to develop their manuscript with support. If you’re feeling stuck and don’t know whether you need mindset work or editorial support, book an Initial Consultation Call and we’ll figure it out together.

Do I need to have a complete draft to work with you?

No. You can come to mentorship with a work-in-progress, a partial draft, a raw first draft that needs organizing, or the beginning chapters of something new. What matters is that you’re actively writing and ready to receive feedback as you work.

What kind of feedback do you provide?

My feedback shows you what’s already working in your writing—what sparkles, where the energy lives, what wants to emerge. I help you understand what your work wants to become, strengthen your scenes and structure, and stay connected to your creative flow while also mastering craft.

I give gentle direction through questions and intuitive hits, never a list of things that are “wrong” or that you “need” to fix. My goal is to help you see for yourself what you want to write, so you develop trust in your own instincts.

Can I work on short stories instead of a novel?

Yes. While this mentorship is designed for book-length projects (novels or revisions), we can adapt it to focus on a story collection or other substantial writing project.

What if I get stuck or need support between our calls?

You’ll have Voxer access to touch in whenever you need guidance. If you get stuck on a scene, need help with a creative decision, or want to share a breakthrough, I’m available to support you between our scheduled calls.

I feel physically stopped when I try to work on my manuscript. Will mentorship help with this?

Often, yes. In my experience, writers feel stopped because their unconscious mind is signalling that they shouldn’t proceed without support. When you have someone beside you—witnessing what’s working, helping you see what wants to emerge—your nervous system can relax and you can move forward with momentum.

If the blocks feel particularly intense or tied to deeper resistance patterns, we might discover during our Initial Consultation Call that you’d benefit from State of Mind Coaching first (or alongside Mentorship).

My idea feels bigger than I am. How does mentorship help with this?

This is one of my specialties. When your idea feels overwhelming or bigger than you are, I help you break the work into smaller, manageable pieces so you can see the next step clearly. I also help you reconnect with the energy of the idea itself—so you remember that it chose you, and you don’t have to write it all on your own. You have help from the idea, and you have me as your thought partner.

What’s your background as a writer and mentor?

I have over two decades of teaching and mentoring experience, and I’m an alumna of Hedgebrook, the Humber School for Writers, and The Banff Centre. I hold my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia.

I’m also trained in Timeline Therapy®, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Hypnosis at the Practitioner level, which informs my understanding of the creative process and how to work with resistance, momentum, and the energetics of writing.

Find out more about me.

The purpose of our Initial Consultation Call is for me to understand who you are as a writer and where you are with your project, for you to understand my approach as a mentor, and for both of us to discover if we’re a good fit for close, creative work together. A good mentorship relationship requires mutual understanding, presence, and trust. This call helps us both feel that out.

If it’s a YES for both of us and we agree to move forward, I’ll send you an email with a link to process payment. There will be an agreement for you to read before your payment goes through.

Then you’ll book your sessions and we’ll get started.
